At least it is in Galveston, Texas where they will be hosting their 5th Annual Ohana Surf Dog Competition on July 16th. You can expect to see between 25 to 30 dogs hitting the beach to surf it out for the title of Big Dog on Campus or ocean. The Top three Big Dogs can win trophies, toys, treats, gift certificates, and all-time canine bragging rights. Now that's an ocean that bites.
Have a dog that can compete? Registration starts at 8:00 am and will cost you a $25 donation, with surfing taking place in 10-minute heats from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. The contest is limited to 30 dogs to prevent any overheating or dehydration of the animals. So tag someone who owns a dog that wouldn't have a ruff time riding the waves.
The judging is based on surfing style, comfort, and responsiveness to owners.

This event gets even better! All proceeds from the event go to the Galveston Island Humane Society, which will have trainers on hand to help make sure all the dogs are properly pitted. If you can't make it down but want to contribute because you're an awesome human being who does awesome things, you can do so here.
